THE ORACLE TREE

New Forest apprenticeship is termed an "Intermediary System," since it is an Oracle Tree which acts as intermediary (middle-man) between the Initiate and the Apprentice. Every lesson which is given, every step in the learning process, is done (and supervised) through the interactive 'Filter' of a living Tree Oracle, which represents the original archetypal Pheryllt System. The function of the Initiate/teacher, is simply to interpret & represent. Ours is the only existing apprenticeship program based on such an authentic, living link.

How is it done?
The tradition of a shaman creating a 'voice' for a Tree, comes from Ireland, and can be traced back to ca. 2800 BC. The Book of Pheryllt records a method for making them, and this formulae is reproduced in full in Douglas Monroe's THE LOST BOOKS OF MERLYN.
CLACHA BRATH were "talking stones," made from two egg-sized sedimentary rocks formed by water running over them over a long period of time. Swiftly running streams and waterfall basins were favored sites to search for such stones. When hit together, the stones should produce a crisp, resonant sound. The Talking Stones were then inscribed (engraved or painted) with a personal, esoteric Symbol representing the student--- his aspirations and essential inner-self.
The Clacha Brath were then placed, (following to the traditional ritual), within the hollow of the chosen Oracle Tree, so that they were touching. Consultation was done orally, with responses from the oracle 'tapped out' by the stones, using the Pheryllt codal system based upon the Tree Ogham Alphabet.
Locating a suitable Oracle Tree for personal use, often requires a long search process involving many factors.
First, the tree must possess the required physical trait of "hollowness" to the core, by virtue of Age. Second, the tree must be one of the 21 Ogham trees, in order to be 'recognized' or to 'resonate' within by the system. Third, the tree must be older than any surrounding tree within eyesight of the location.
Following successful discovery, the tree must then be 'Awakened' to sympathetic consciousness, by employing the three-part Ritual, SONG OF THE FOREST TREES, outlined in the Epilogue to THE LOST BOOKS OF MERLYN.
Since students new to the System will not have built up the necessary Authority to consult the Tree unaided, the Initiate Teacher must always be present during the early phases of work. As Authority is built-up and earned over time, the aspirant will gradually gain the level necessary for solitary contact.
Oracle Trees, once properly awakened, exist in a state of 'superposition,' in respect to all other Trees growing within the common ground of our planet Earth.
By virtue of this fact, an Oracle Tree in one part of the world, is simultaneously in-sync with any other tree in any other given part of the globe. This remarkable state makes possible the long-distance modus-operandi we employ at New Forest, in regard to off-Centre apprenticeships.
At New Forest NY and affiliate Camp New Forest, we use our established Oracle Trees as 'links' to the students' [awakened] tree, no matter where it is in the world. This is similar in concept to computers connected over the World-wide Web, except Awakened Trees communicate through the Ether of the Zero Point Field now recognized by mainstream Quantum Physics. Through this non-local state of "Entanglement," apprenticeship need no longer be confined by location or distance. We work successfully with students anywhere in the world.
