Gothic Cinema?
What precisely constitutes the word 'Gothic' when used as a descriptive adjective? The only answer to this question covering all bases, would have to involve moods and emotions. True 'Gothic' nature leaves the observer with a particular sense of longing... a dark, almost-forlorn Pathos of a sweet, ancient sentimental nature. Such Pathos is not normally an acquired taste, but instead a disposition present from birth... somber, solitary, existing on the far-edge of the subconscious heartlands.
Gothic films are described as films that draw from the Gothic tradition in literature. This means that they have dark and sometimes supernatural elements like the Gothic novels of the 18th and 19th centuries (e.g. such Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1818) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897). The tragic theme of 'forlorn love' is one re-current in Gothic literature and film. Many Gothic artists, musicians and film directors are Surrealists who rely on their subconscious minds to produce their art. Many people seem to think that Goths like blood-and-gore-based Art; while, in reality, they commonly despise gore yet do love all things dark and mysterious. On this note, one final point of import must be had: that there is a definitive difference between things which are 'dark,' and things which are evil.
We hope our Dark Visitors will relish the Cinematographic Gems to follow.

GOTHIC EROS
Also include here, is a special collection of films produced in modern Gothic style after the classic tales of Edgar Alan Poe--- the original Master of all things Gothique.
Beginning with the ancient Succubus and Incubus of the Olde World, the spirit-origins of Gotheanum have always been imbued with an erotic, dark, sensual element... nowhere seen more clearly, than within the Vampyre mythos. But darker still, the Gothic ideal of Eros has characteristically gone one step beyond conventional norms, into the netherworld of forbidden loves and unmentionable longings.
